About Ashtanga Yoga
Description
Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic and energetic practice that harmonises breath with a progressive series of postures. Ashtanga, derived from the Sanskrit term meaning “eight limbs,” is a practice that connects physical postures (asanas) with breath (pranayama), focus (drishti), and flow (vinyasa). It’s known as a disciplined, purifying path, one that strengthens the body while quieting the mind.
The Intermediate Series, also called Nadi Shodhana, continues the eight-limbed Ashtanga path, focusing on purifying the nervous system and refining inner awareness. “Nadi” refers to the energy channels within the body, and “Shodhana” means cleansing — together symbolising the removal of blockages that restrict energy flow.
This sequence strengthens the body while opening the subtle pathways of breath and prana. Through disciplined movement (vinyasa), focused gaze (drishti), and controlled breath (ujjayi pranayama), the practice creates internal heat that purifies, balances, and revitalises.
It’s a journey of both strength and surrender, a reminder that balance arises from devotion and presence.
This artwork reflects that philosophy, transforming ancient wisdom into a calm, visual meditation for your practice space.
How to Use
Use this chart as a visual companion to your Ashtanga practice. Follow the sequence slowly, letting the breath guide each transition from one posture to the next. Begin with steady Sun Salutations, then progress through standing, seated, and finishing postures with awareness and patience.
As you practise, observe the relationship between stability and flow, how strength allows softness, and discipline creates ease. Over time, this poster becomes more than a guide; it becomes a mirror of your own progression, grounding you in rhythm, focus, and ritual.
For deeper connection, set the tone with soft light or a grounding fragrance before beginning.
Framing Suggestion: Frame it in natural wood for an earthy, grounded look or pair it with soft linen textures and candles to create a calm corner for reflection and breath.
Placement: Place this piece where you breathe, move, or unwind, beside your yoga mat, meditation space, or a softly lit corner. Pair with gentle light, a candle, or subtle fragrance to create a mindful atmosphere that grounds and renews you.
